How to Get to Rovinia Beach
Rovinia Beach is located on the west coast of Corfu, near the traditional village of Liapades. It is part of the stunning Paleokastritsa region, known for its dramatic cliffs and turquoise waters.
By Car – Where to park
Whether you choose to go with your own car or looking for an affordable rental, you can, you can park in three different spots.
- The first one is on both sides of the roadway where the dirt road begins. It’s shaded, and parking is free. It is the place most visitors park their car, to avoid the dirty road. However, keep in mind that you’ll need to walk downhill for at least 10-15 minutes to reach the beach, so plan for double that time on the way back.
- The second spot is a small shaded area that fits a few cars, about 100 meters from the start of the dirt road. It’s also free of charge.
- The third option is a private parking lot halfway along the dirt road. This significantly reduces the time, effort, and sweat required to get to the beach and back. Parking fees range from €4 to €5 per day.
Finally, some people drive their cars or motorbikes all the way to the end of the dirt road. However, the road conditions are extremely poor and can be damaging to vehicles that are not built for off-road driving, so we don’t recommend going all the way down. Also there are no shade there.
From the parking area, you must walk for about 10 minutes down a scenic but slightly rocky path to reach the beach.
By Boat
The beach is also accessible by boat, which you can rent from nearby areas like Palaiokastritsa and Liapades. The rental cost is usually around 100 euros per day (typically from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM), with an additional charge for fuel.
Renting a small motorboat is a popular option, as it allows you to explore other hidden coves in the area. Some organized boat tours also stop at the beach.
On Foot
For those who love hiking, the beach can be reached via a short but steep walking trail through olive groves and lush vegetation.
There are many other paths that lead to other beaches or breathtaking views as well.
The last section of the trail has uneven steps, so wearing comfortable footwear is recommended.
Hiking to Rovinia Beach
For adventure seekers, hiking to Rovinia Beach is an unforgettable experience.
The trail leading to the beach starts from Liapades village and winds through a beautiful landscape filled with ancient olive groves, cypress trees, and wildflowers.
The hike is about 1.5 km long and takes around 20–30 minutes, depending on pace.
While most of the path is easy to navigate, the final descent is steeper and requires careful footing. Hikers are advised to wear comfortable shoes, bring plenty of water, and enjoy the stunning views along the way.
For those looking for a longer trek, there are additional trails in the area that connect Rovinia Beach with other scenic locations, such as Limni Beach and Paradise Beach. These trails offer breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline and are ideal for nature lovers who enjoy exploring off the beaten path.
Is Rovinia Beach busy? The Best Time to Visit
Even though Rovinia Beach is a bit isolated and hard to get to for most people, it can get very crowded, especially with young people. This usually happens in the afternoon, on weekends, and during the peak summer months of July and August.
Keep in mind that on weekends, all beaches on the island attract more people than on weekdays because local residents also visit them.
So, if you want to enjoy the beach without the crowds, your best options are:
- Go in the morning, between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
- Go on a weekday (Monday to Friday) and avoid the weekends.
- Visit in June or September (if possible).
Ideally, plan to visit Rovinia Beach on a weekday morning, even in July or Augoust. This will ensure you find easy parking and fewer people on the beach.
Νο Facilities and Services
Rovinia is not an organized beach; it’s an untouched paradise.
This means you won’t find sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, shops, or anything similar.
While a small boat occasionally stops to sell snacks, sandwiches, cold drinks, and coffee, you can’t rely on it.
Your only option is to bring your own supplies. It’s essential to pack food, plenty of water, and a beach umbrella if you use one.
If you plan to bring chairs, sunbeds, or children’s toys, remember that you’ll have to carry them down and back up the steep path. It’s a good idea to plan ahead and only bring what you really need.
What to Expect at Rovinia Beach
A Natural and Untouched Environment
Rovinia Beach is a pebble beach with incredibly clear, turquoise waters.
The water is typically cool due to underwater springs. As It deepens quickly it makes it ideal for swimmers and snorkelers but less suitable for young children who prefer shallow waters.
A Cave for Shade and Photography
One of the highlights of Rovinia Beach is a small cave on the left side of the beach which is ideal for shade.
The cave may not offers a stunning opportunity for exploration but is ideal for amazing photographies.
Ha’s Cave in Liapades
About 250 meters away from the beach, you’ll find what’s known as Ha’s Cave (or “Ha’s Hole”). It looks like a natural well and is about 25 meters high from the sea level.
You can only get inside by swimming, and it requires a long dive, so you need to be an experienced swimmer. It’s very important to be careful to avoid an accident. This kind of activity is not for everyone.
You can visit it by renting a boat from nearby areas or by booking an organized boat tour.
Stunning Views and Sunset
Due to its west-facing position, Rovinia Beach offers breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea, especially in the late afternoon.
Staying until sunset is highly recommended, as the sky turns into shades of orange, pink, and purple, creating a magical atmosphere.
Fun Fact: The Origin of the Name “Rovinia”
The beach got its name from a type of acacia tree, the Robinia pseudoacacia, which used to grow on the hillsides of the bay.
